first day and a half

Where to start, our day yesterday did not set off well. We ordered a taxi that didn’t come and we ended up being late to the orphanage! After 5.5 years it felt like every minute was too much, it was not a good way to start the day as I was already stressed before we arrived. When we finally set off it took only 30 minutes although the taxi driver said it would take one hour!

When we arrived we first went to the office to meet the staff of the orphanage, it felt surreal to be there, I tried to focus and listen to the conversation but I was just waiting for him to come up. He was like a little bullet that entered the room, he flew into my arms shouting mommy mommy, he was soooooooo excited! I was worried I was gonna cry but I was so pleasantly surprised I was just happy and didn’t cry J He soon got obsessed with my camera and went around taking pictures of everything and everyone which was great as I was planning on doing that anyway J

He then showed us around the orphanage, we went to see his friends at the school downstairs and met with his teacher, it’s clear he’s very loved. The kids were so sweet and he was so proud to show off his mommy and daddy and of course his new car which he absolutely loves. He’s fascinated that he now owns things and keeps saying this is mine about everything, including the swimming pool, the bath, the bed... absolutely everything.

We asked the staff when he could come home with us, normally it’s after a few visits but we decided to ask him and boy was he ready to go! He was super excited, kept telling every stranger we met this is my mommy and daddy. We first went back to the hotel and settled down a little bit and then went out to the mall to buy clothes and have some food. He eats a lot and is not afraid to say no if he doesn’t like something. He doesn’t like holding hands on the street and mall and in general he doesn’t like being told no so this morning after we went swimming, which he adored! He got very angry because we told him not to touch the electricity socket. It was a real episode, boy he did not love us J I expected this to come, I had no doubt hard times were ahead. It took some time but eventually he calmed down. Deep down he’s a very sweet boy. He’s a fast learner and his speech is better than we anticipated but we have a long road ahead.

He adores his daddy and in general when one of us is going somewhere he is very focused to see where we are and what we are doing. He likes to cuddle and makes good eye contact but we have a long road ahead.
