Home at last...

Friday 3am we set out for the long journey home. I needn’t have worried about having to wake up J in the middle of the night, as soon as I said time to go home to Lily, he was wide awake! 6am we had a flight to Delhi, no problems... five hour layover... a bit long with a small boy ... 8.5 hour flight to London...slept for 7 hours...one night in London...Eurostar to France... car home. Suitcases unfortunately have gone missing for now... I sure hope they will turn up as they are filled with memories of our trip. Luckily I packed his photo book and adoption papers in the hand luggage.

Never in my life have I experienced feeling so much joy at seeing someone else’s happiness. He was just over the moon with his house, his room, his dog, his cat.... My worries about him being afraid of Lily had been unnecessary. Although he is a little bit afraid (she is bigger than him and weighs three times more) he does like her very much and pets her as long as we are there with him. Well I’m happy with that, it’s a good start!

We’re now trying to find our routine of play/work etc... No issues with jetlag or anything, there is only 4.5 hours difference and so far no problems with waking up in the middle of the night.

His behaviour is continuing to improve although we still have the occasional meltdown when he does not get what he wants and mommy sticks to discipline. I am so grateful that my husband and I are on the same wavelength when it comes to our boy. Sometimes I still find it hard to deal with these meltdowns but with the support of my husband I know that the anger is not aimed at me and with time I know it’s going to pass.

Everyone asks me all the time so how does it feel. Well it feels surreal to finally have my little boy in the house, to hear his laughter, to sit next to him during meals, to walk the dog with him, to go shopping together, etc... I am still in awe of his courage to go with two strange people to a new home. On our first day he was clearly confused. When we were in India he pointed at all Caucasian people and called them a mommy and a daddy so now of course they are everywhere! We have not had any visits just yet but he is eager to meet grandma and also the nieces and nephews. He’s starting to remember their names when we skype and he repeats words perfectly in French, Hebrew and Dutch! It’s very impressive how he seems to be able to pronounce them quite well. But we’re holding off on introducing new languages until he’s more settled. For now we just from time to time introduce a word.
So this is now my favorite picture...
